MusicByte was founded by Chris McWhorter — a Nashville-based audio engineer, 20+ year technologist, and certified cybersecurity engineer who walked away from the corporate world in 2023 to build something different on Music Row.
His path — from rock bottom, to label-grade enterprise infrastructure, to professional studio work — shaped a rare understanding of what real ownership and protection actually require. MusicByte exists to give serious indie artists that same ownership and protection — without the label.

Early Struggle & Reinvention
After a traumatic childhood and a period of addiction and poor choices that led to incarceration, Chris got clean on November 8, 2006 and took full responsibility for turning his life around.
Enterprise Technology & Security
Chris rebuilt his career in IT and cybersecurity, rising to senior engineering roles at Fortinet — supporting global clients including Oracle, Lowe's, Harvard, and Levi's, while earning numerous advanced certifications.
Music Row Audio Engineer
In 2023, Chris left the corporate world to pursue his lifelong passion for music. He trained at SAE Institute and NSCC and began freelance engineering at The Hideout on Music Row — recording, engineering, and videography for indie artists and major podcasts.

Combining deep enterprise infrastructure expertise with hands-on music production, Chris founded MusicByte to give serious indie artists professional creative services and label-level infrastructure — so they can own their art, their revenue, and their future.
